The company first opened its doors in a small shop on Main Street in downtown Zanesville, Ohio. Like many businesses of that era, the candy was made in the back of the building and sold out of the front.
When the first batch of Bloomer chocolates was sold, Rutherford B Hayes from nearby Delaware, Ohio, was serving as the 19th President of the United States. And unlike the sophisticated product distribution system the company utilizes today, in those days deliveries to merchants were made by horse drawn cargo wagons.
The inspiration for a company was an old family recipe
As the popularity and demand increased for Bloomer chocolates, in 1901, the company constructed its own four story chocolate factory at 39 North Third Street, just a short distance from the original location. The new Bloomer factory featured candy making and packaging equipment from around the world, most of which is still in use today.

We can always do it better
Around 1910, the first of many improvements to the manufacturing and distribution process was made. A tradition for excellence was begun that continues today when the management team recognized the need for cooling the large volume of chocolates the factory was producing. A brand new technology called refrigeration was installed to keep the chocolate cool as it moved throughout the factory. Finding new ways to constantly improve both the quality and distribution of products continues today.

A Tradition of Excellence

Handed down from generation to generation
For over a century, Bloomer customers have enjoyed the superior taste of our chocolates which are blended in precise detail from family recipes. They are still made the old fashioned way using only natural ingredients and contain no preservatives or artificial substitutes.
To insure a superior product, only the best tasting ingredients are used. How chocolate is blended and the precise amount of time it is allowed to cool during each step of the process is what makes the taste of our chocolates so unique.
